God's Messengers
This week’s message explored the dramatic showdown on Mount Carmel in 1 Kings 18, where Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal and called Israel back to the one true God. The sermon reminded us that this moment was about far more than proving God’s existence. It was a battle over lordship: Who truly rules our hearts, our lives, and our world?
Through Elijah’s bold prayer and God’s powerful response, we were challenged to examine the “powers” that compete for influence in our own lives. While we may not bow to idols of stone, things like money, pride, comfort, control, or success can easily take God’s rightful place. The message encouraged us not to avoid our own “Mount Carmel” moments, but to invite God to confront and burn away the idols that pull us from Him.
The sermon concluded with a reminder that prayer is how we participate in God’s work in the world. Like Elijah, we are called to pray with confidence, asking God to reveal His glory and establish His Kingdom in our lives. When we seek God’s lordship above all else, we discover that He still shows up in powerful ways today.
